It seems very interesting when I read some article on John McCain and Barack Obama email marketing campaigns. There were fast and furious campaign had by both during November. Here is one copy of the mail message sent by Barack Obama campaigns.
I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.
We just made history.
And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.
You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.
We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.
But I want to be very clear about one thing…
All of this happened because of you.
When going through the articles I found most of the authors evaluated both campaign and pointed out the best practices of which are not undertaken by current marketers. Despite the outcome of the election, lessons can be learned or taken from both presidential candidates. I can see a negative aspect on sending mails regarding political campaigns. Sending email too frequently maximizes immediate profit or awareness (which, in essence, is the goal of these political campaigns), but it inevitably results in an eroding list that kills long term return on investment.
My mind thought in some other way. Will it be possible to practice email marketing in Sri Lankan elections. I would say “yes can” but not now. Reading and understanding of emails is not important but people should have full knowledge in using Internet and checking. Except people in the urban areas Sri Lankans still believe the traditional ways of communication in political election. Places like Colombo and other urban area internet interactions are increasing. So its time for the politicians to think about marketing them selves through Internet more specifically using web sites and emails. As I believe in Sri Lanka in future these email marketing campaigns on political election will happen soon, even though the Internet era of Sri Lanka still in the growing stage we can see a boom in future in these type of campaigns. 🙂
